About Matt Shaw
In 1984, Matt Shaw was born.
In 1992, he inserted a floppy disk into an old Macintosh II and became addicted to a game called Lode Runner.
In 1994, he discovered the joys of AOL. (And Heckler’s Online, RIP.)
In 1998, he joined an online Star Wars fan club, and still keeps in touch with people he met there.
That same year, he started his first blog, and used it to publish reams of angsty teenage poetry.
In 2003 he was attending college at Northeastern University, where he signed up for Facebook the day after it was made available to Boston-area students.
In 2007, he started working in the basement of a liquor store. That year he also started writing about beer. For a living. It was pretty cool.
In 2009, he got sick of stacking boxes and got a job as a marketing intern at a small high tech firm, and was quickly promoted to marketing director.
In 2010, he was laid off with half the staff. So he started his own consulting firm.
In 2010 he worked with some of the country’s premiere renewable energy companies, consulting on SEO and social media as a contractor for Captains of Industry.
That year he had the opportunity to share some of his ideas with Digitas, the largest digital marketing agency in the world. They offered him a full-time position as a community manager. (They had to create that title for him. It had never existed in the company before.) He accepted.
Today, Matt is helping Digitas design social strategies for themselves and their clients. He writes this blog. He also talks to his friends online (and has since 1994).
